which I visited yesterday. 

I'm sharing with you images of artist Lina Sheynius. Because I found her work was stunningly natural and direct and incredibly sexy. Representing an authentic 'female gaze' & sexualizing her (ex)boyfriends body in one of the most sensual+explicit ways I could imagine.

The other featured artists Jen Davis, Nina Hoffmann and Paula Winkler are reflecting different aspects of female sexuality with a less immediately intimate but more intellectual approach, touching the issues of male body ideals, self-staging, 'online-lust' and others. Absolutely worth visiting.

Chemistry worldview.

I have to learn a huge load of chemistry these days, which includes learning about the structure and reactions of salt. The daily table-salt 'NaCl' is one that appears rather often in my life, as it also does in the books. I know by now, how the atoms/ions connect to each other, that they form a specific, regular cristall-structure and how they dissolve in a polar solvent like water. I like learning this stuff. Signe Emma's images even give it an aesthetic value, a beautiful touch.

As I just moved into a new flat there might be some interior posts coming up here. Searching the web for inspiration I found this wonderfull rock'n'roll collage via The Selby.

Swimming Sushi.

Do you love sushi -that healthy stuff from Japan- as much as I do?
Then you have to face the same problem I have:

Tuna is completely over-fished and salmon is usually farmed under industrial, environment-hostile conditions. Also most other sea-food ingredients are usually from problematic sources – hardly any of them being sustainable. In addition, the frozen fish, transported by cargo-airplanes leaves a double carbon-footprint: freezing and transportation. So if you want to consume ethically, you have to refrain from sushi as they are served or sold in most places.

But art will help. What? Art??

The interdisciplinary performing arts unit post theater has created a series of performances about the cultural history of fish-consumption, “Fish-Tales”. As part of their research, they traveled to Denmark, Iceland and Japan, to learn more about fish. Art can raise awareness, but the artists of post theater wanted to offer also a solution for the problem. Hence, they opened their installation/restaurant nekkko that serves sustainable sushi.

All major ingredients are as regionally and seasonally shopped as possible and most ingredients are certified organic. There are also vegetarian (V) and vegan (VV) variations in the mouthwatering menue (Berlin-Brandenburg). In order to reduce the friction, noise and energy of  the typical conveyer-belt system of running sushi, post theater replaces it with a miniature water canal. In it, wooden rafts in the shape of a boat or fish float in a circle, carrying the sushi to the diners. Some examples of what might float by:

Ghost World.

If you don't read my blahblah about it until the end: 
at least read the comic & watch the movie (in this order!)
Btw.: I'll not spoil anything just want to get you hooked and share some thoughts ;)

To blurt it out directly: I am very pleased with the movie-adaption of Ghost World (and this even though I love the comicbook!). What Terry Zwigoff makes from Daniel Clowes artwork is very discrete from the original, but also very, very close in the mood and insight it transports. 

The director of the movie seems aware of the specialities of comics as a medium, he respects it as an artform for itself and doesn’t just (ab)use it as a script/ready-made story board. Thus the film shows many variations in the storyline but they do not seem helpless, they don’t try to hide. They’re obvious, honest. They say: „Look, I am not just a reproduction“.

GW is kind of specific in adressing readers. The main characters Rebecca and Enid are not exactly those you want to identify with, neither in comic, nor in the movie. They are kind of cynic, pseudo-intellectual outsiders. Even though I’d say that they stay more abstract in the comic and therefore maybe a bit more open to identification (which must not be true, it could also be the case that they are more sympathic in “real” person in the movie and that being abstract in the comic also keeps the reader on a distance...).

They are “too cool for the world’ and see themselves as coolness outriders. Outsiders or outriders – in any case the comic depicts the teenage typical moments of opposition to all conventions and rules, of provocation (expressed for example in the extensive use of youth slang in the comic). That offers identification potential to pretty much everyone who lives or remembers his/her teenage years.

Foxy & Swan & Wisent

These images (especially the fox) by Stefano Unterthiner remind me of the long silent walks I took in the forest near our house when I was young.

I had read the book "Försters Katja" (which would translate as something like: Forest Ranger's Daughter Katja) by Ilse Kitzinger and Katja went deerstalking in the book, which inspired me to do the same. I remember how I was overwhelmed how much is to discover and observe when you just walk alone, silent and calm with your eyes open for what is going on around you, how close you can come to the animals. I guess it was one of those "nature-experiences" that still impress and mould me today.

The book is from 1968 already, my mother read it when she was a young girl and I loved to get all her old books out of the cellar and devoured them! And I will definitely keep them!

Paradise left.

I posted about (the exhibition) "Paradise Lost" before. Peter Bialobrzeski (who is not featured in said exhibition) takes a slightly different approach - his series "Paradise Now" shows us the nature left between glass and steel and concrete in our big cities. He captures and creates a surreal image of this left-over nature by long exposure times.

I found the one above in a magazine (chrismon) nearly A3 sized and must say that it looks much better that big than in the mini version here on my blog. I'd love to have it original sized (126 x 160 cm)...
